yo steve, good thing that we didn't go down to money tonight - it turns out that money is under-going renovations starting today. I just got a call from them crying how there's nothing decent there...they figured that since they still take guest list on their machine they were fine...aren't you glad that we didn't go...even though I had other reasons to have gone...we'll fix that later. and what about survivor....jenna, did not see that one coming at all (6-1 for her) that's crazy...and did you see her at the reunion....(blank space here for a reason that you probably know)....yup! anyways, i've just finished watching one of the most saddest movies I have ever seen in my life...i felt like jona watching, well, any film for that matter (tear, tear). the best portuguese film i've ever seen - Ganhar a Vida (to win back life): from the RTP site its synopsis says:On the outskirts of Paris, a housing project. A youth gang. A fight with the cops. A teenager is killed. From then on, everything happens fast. The boy was Portuguese. The Portuguese community in France never talks. Silence is its rule. But Cidalia wants to know: she wants the truth. She is thirty-six years of age. A cleaning woman. As she pursues her crusade, her battle for change, the community turns against her. "This is France", they say, "We are not at home here. We want no trouble." Faced with the blank wall of collective embarrassment, Cidalia won't keep quiet. She is ostracized. She loses friends, job, family. But one thing she gains: a life of her own....i mean this poor woman who just gives up everything she built up for her family by leaving Portugal for France to lead a better life for them, just to be criticized not only by the French but by her own people too afraid to do anything because they don't feel like home. I mean just to think about moving to somewhere absolutely foreign to you & to never feel like you belong despite all measures to adjust, it's just heart-wretching really. As much as i'm the king of euro-trash & praise anything european...most, if not all european countries are sooooo discriminatory to people that aren't them - it's sickening. fantastic film though.
