oh right, my take on El Crimen de Parde Amaro...well going into this film, I figured I would of loved it. I mean it's a Spanish film with one of the best actors outhere, Gabriel Gael Bernal... its an adaptation from the Portuguese classic novel by Eca de Quieros..i mean how could it go wrong - somehow along the way it did - & it blew. Quickly, the story goes as follows: young, newly ordained priest arrives in town & this girl (studying to be a nun) falls for him...they get together, fool around (Latinos fooling around, I know - I was just as shocked)....surprise, surprise, gets pregnant, she's willing to leave her studying in the convent for him - he wont leave the priesthood - wants her to get an abortion - goes to get one from some scary witchdoctor outside of town - something goes terrible wrong & she bleeds to death. What does our young priest do you ask - claims it was the girl's ex-boyfriend got her pregnant & when out to save her from having the abortion, but got there too late....the other priests knew what really happened but because they were all involved in other problematic issues that would lead to their excommunication from the church if known (i.e - sex, drugs, guerilla warfare...) the other priests keep quiet...and the end. The film doesn't provoke any emotion really cos you kinda know ten minutes ahead what would likely happen - & it does. dull, predictable & easily forgettable - out of 5 - 2 stars.
